Top 5 Bengali web series to watch in lockdown.

Top 5 Bengali web series to watch in lockdown.

All of us know about the present scenario. Films that were supposed to release in April and May have now been postponed There's no confirmation on when these films shall be released. Just like every film industry, the Bangla film industry is also facing loss. But the Bangla film industry will face difficulties to cope with this loss.

The main sufferers would be the technicians working in the Bangla film industry. We can't do anything about the situation,it's all in Mother Nature's hands. But, we can stay at home and watch old Bangla films and web series. So, I've come up with a list of suggestions of Bangla series that you can watch at home.

This is a list of the Top 5 Bangla web seriesthat you can watch at home. Let's begin.
The web series at no. 5 is Kaali, created by Parambrata Chatterjee, starring Paoli Dam in the lead role. The story is about a woman named Kaali, whose husband is a small time criminal and a son who begins his career in the world of crime. One day, while dealing with the world of crime, her son meets with a terrible accident. Now, Kaali also has to step in the world of crime in order to save her son. He has limited time left, so she has to get him operated. So, that's the story.

The most positive aspect of this series is the mother-son emotions that are portrayed as well as the thrilling elements that make the show. How Kolkata's underworld operates has been shown very well. The whole angle of the police force as well. They've done a lot of detailing. This series also has some of the finest performances, and of course the show stealer is Paoli Dam.  Season 2 drops soon. So, this is one web series you can definitely enjoy, while at home.

The series at no. 4 is Rahasya Romancho 2 seasons 1 and 2. Season 2 recently dropped, season 1 came out last year. This series is a tribute, a homage to pulp literature and movies. So, people who love Quentin Tarantino movies will definitely like this series.  They'll find references from his cinema, here and there. In both the seasons, what's special is the off-beat casting of characters. For example, in season 2, you see Kharaj Mukherjee in an action role, which he has never ever done before. There are great actors here, like Rudranil Ghosh, a lot of good actors have been casted in both seasons.  The screenplay in the second season has a lot of twists and turns. The first season was an anthology, and was exploring various kind of thrillers. In the second season, the stories are interconnected by a string of events. This is a great web series, I really enjoyed it. And you should watch it too.

Moving on to no. 3, it's Shobdo Jodbo, which is also a thriller web series. It's created by Sourav Chakraborty, with Rajat Kapoor and Payel Sarkar in the lead roles.  Again, this is a psychological thriller. From the beginning to the end, you'll be left guessing whether everything is going on inside the writer's mind or everything is staged.  Probably, characters from the novel in the series have come to life. So, it's very well-written, and well-acted. Rajat Kapoor...you know who Rajat Kapoor is! But, the only negative thing about this series is, his own voice is not used in the series, but was dubbed in Bangla.

And I feel like it was... this is maybe because I've watched him since my childhood... I had an issue with the sound.  But, apart from that, the series is very well-made.

Moving to no. 2, the series on this spot is Hoichoi's first Bangladeshi venture. The series is called Dhaka Metro. It's been directed by well-known Bangladeshi director Amitabh Reza Chowdhury. The premise is quite interesting.  We see a successful businessman moving out of Dhaka city in his car. The series begins with elements of a road movie, he's frustrated with his life. He meets new people on the way.

There's a peek into the countryside. And suddenly, the genre changes. It starts off as a road movie, about self-discovery and the good feels. And suddenly, it takes a thrilling turn. So, the series is very well-written and well-acted. The specialty of Bangladeshi series is thatthey are very close to reality. In numerous scenes, you'll notice that they don't even use background music. Like in regular life, there's no background music. But still, there's a feel to it. Personally, I really enjoyed Dhaka Metro. But I have a reason to not put it on the no.1 spot. You'll come to know why, as soon as I tell you my no. 1. The web series that's on the topmost spot is Bengal's all time favourite, Byomkesh.

But, I have a special reason for this series to be on the top. First of all, compared to all the actors who have played Byomkesh, Anirban Bhattacharya is a fresh and suitable face. A lot of actors have played Byomkesh, like Jisshu Sengupta, Abir Chatterjee. Anirban is different. He has brought a lot of changes to Byomkesh's character, which is quite opposite to what is written on text.  His behaviour, attitude is completely different. His reference here seems to be Benedict Cumberbatch's character Sherlock. Here, Byomkesh is quite restless, just like Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock.

So, that seems to be a reference for the characterization. What I really liked was, generally we see filmmakers adapt the novel as it is. But, the treatment in this series is an amalgamation of multiple stories. For the modern generation, the editing is quite fast paced, to bring about the twists and turns. The initial seasons were edited and directed by Shayantan Ghosal, who is one of my favourite new-age Bengali directors. Quite promising. And, with every season, Byomkesh has improved. In terms of making, screenplay, performances. Byomkesh, as a web series, is a landmark in web series content. I didn't watch Bangla web series before this.

This was the first web series that I saw. After this series, people started taking Bangla web series a lot more seriously.  Earlier, it was only about sex comedieswhich had no material in it. Those web series had no story or seriousness. I think Byomkesh would definitely be... any list that I'll make will have Byomkesh on the top of the list. So, that was my list of top 5 Bangla web series. Please comment if you have suggestions or a list of top 5 Bangla content, Please watch these series, stay at home. Stay safe.
